It may get a little less expensive soon to get your iPhone repaired.
Apple has always been particular about how and what components are used to fix its products, and they will continue to be particular about used parts.
Nonetheless, Apple has at last consented to let users fix its gadgets using previously owned Apple parts. In a press release, Apple detailed the growth of its parts program, pointing out that the new procedure for approving used parts is largely dependent on Apple’s Activation Lock program.

As the program grows, the Activation Lock function will make sure that any used components added to the repair program aren’t from stolen or lost iPhones, or possibly other devices. The part is calibrated for new repairs after it has been removed from the Activation Lock or Lost Mode.
Parts must go through “pairing,” which merely verifies that it is an authentic part, before they can be used in the repair software. This holds true for all used components, but biometric sensors require particular attention. Pairing is “critical to preserving the privacy, security, and safety of iPhone,” according to Apple.
Fortunately, unless the logic board needs to be changed, the device’s serial number will no longer be required in order to order parts. Apple can still offer a repair history that details the parts used to fix your device, though, and it will continue to keep track of the parts that are installed in it.
Apple claims that the upcoming program improvements will start “this fall,” however they haven’t given a specific date yet.
