How to connect a wireless mouse to a Chromebook is described in this article. All Chrome OS devices that have a USB port or Bluetooth capability can use the instructions.
What Model of Wireless Mouse Do You Own?
You may believe that there is only one type of wireless mouse—the wire-free variety! But to make wireless mouse, manufacturers employ one of two kinds of wireless technologies. Your Chromebook’s connection method for the wireless mouse will depend on the model you select.
- Bluetooth Mouse: These mice don’t need a USB receiver to function; instead, they connect to your computer over the Bluetooth protocol.
- Radio Frequency (RF) Mouse: These mice eliminate the need for wires by using an RF transmitter inside the mouse and a receiver that plugs into your USB port.
Since most Chromebook devices have plenty of USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity, any kind of wireless mouse will operate with your Chromebook. However, the Bluetooth wireless mouse might be your best option if you’d rather use the USB port on your Chromebook for other devices.
Link a Chromebook and a Bluetooth mouse together.
It’s as easy as connecting any other Bluetooth device to your Chromebook if you have a wireless Bluetooth mouse.
- Flip your Bluetooth mouse over and locate the power button. Verify that the switch is on. The optical light should turn on; it is typically red. Back flat on your mouse pad, place the mouse.
- Choose the taskbar’s lower right corner on your Chromebook. Click the Bluetooth icon in the window that opens.
- Turn on the toggle switch to turn on Bluetooth if it isn’t already turned on. Once enabled, your Chromebook will search for connected, active Bluetooth devices and display a scanning status. Your wireless mouse will show there, and you can choose to pair and connect to it.
Try turning your Bluetooth mouse off and back on again if it doesn’t show up. On your Chromebook, you may also turn off Bluetooth and then turn it back on. Initially, establishing a Bluetooth connection can be challenging; but, after pairing your mouse with your Chromebook, the connection will happen automatically in the future. - The mouse pointer will move in tandem with your mouse movements as soon as your Chromebook and Bluetooth wireless mouse have established a connection.
Link a Chromebook and a Radio Frequency (RF) Mouse together.
The RF mouse is the most widely used type of wireless mouse that may be used with a Chromebook. These include a tiny receiver unit that you can attach straight to your Chromebook’s USB port. No configuration is required. But you’ll have to make sure you buy an RF mouse that works with Chrome OS.
- Make sure the RF mouse you buy is certified to work with Chromebooks when you make your purchase. This certification is crucial because, since driver software cannot be installed on a Chromebook, no RF mouse that does will function on one.
- A miniature USB receiver will be included with your mouse. Connect the tiny receiver to any available USB port on your Chromebook.
- Flip the mouse over and flip the power switch to the ON position. There shouldn’t be any more setup needed once the mouse is connected to the USB receiver; you should be able to use it right away.
Many producers of wireless accessories make use of a “unifying receiver.” Multiple wireless devices made by the same vendor can send data to this one USB receiver. If you have limited USB ports, this configuration is frequently an excellent choice.
